Oligospermia is a condition characterized by a low sperm count in a man’s semen. It’s typically diagnosed when there are fewer than 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen. It’s one of the causes of male infertility, as a lower sperm count can reduce the chances of fertilizing an egg during sexual intercourse. Oligospermia can be caused by various factors, including hormonal imbalances, genetic factors, certain medications, infections, and lifestyle factors such as excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, or exposure to environmental toxins. Treatment options depend on the underlying cause and may include lifestyle changes, hormone therapy, medication, or assisted reproductive techniques such as in vitro fertilization (IVF).
