Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) Batteries: Nickel-cadmium batteries were once popular for portable electronics but have been largely replaced by nickel-metal hydride and lithium-ion batteries due to environmental concerns associated with cadmium. NiCd batteries are still used in certain applications, such as cordless power tools and emergency lighting systems.
