HMS Jaguar was a Royal Navy ship, specifically a Type 22 frigate of the Broadsword class. The Type 22 frigates were a class of general-purpose vessels designed for anti-submarine warfare, anti-air warfare, and escort duties. HMS Jaguar was laid down in 1972, launched in 1973, and commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1976.
Throughout its service, HMS Jaguar participated in various operations and deployments, including Falklands War in 1982. During the conflict, HMS Jaguar played a role in the naval blockade around the Falkland Islands and provided escort duties. Post-war, the frigate continued to serve in different capacities, including deployments to the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq War and operations in the Caribbean.
HMS Jaguar was decommissioned from active service in 2005, marking the end of its operational life with the Royal Navy. After decommissioning, the ship was eventually sold for scrap or recycling. Its service history, particularly its involvement in the Falklands War, is remembered as part of the Royal Navy’s contributions during that conflict.
